Newton Gravity Deuce Putter Review

You may recall the American-made boutique putter brand, Sacks Parente. If you weren’t aware, Sacks Parente also launched a shaft company called “Newton Shafts.” Fast forward, and the decision was made to rebrand everything under the Newton Golf umbrella. As part of this rebranding, a new line of putters was introduced – the Newton Gravity series. Made from carbon steel with a ceramic coating, and featuring the signature Ultra Low Balance Point, the Gravity line includes five different models, along with a new Newton putter shaft. The Newton Gravity Deuce featured here is a wide-body Anser-style putter with a unique center-shaft hosel.

The Looks

Premium and contemporary aesthetics are a major focus of the Newton Gravity putters. The putter head features a black ceramic finish with red paintfill. I would describe it as a softer black, almost with a bluish tint. It’s not quite the classic Aquamarine finish used by BOS Golf, but definitely more of a “moonlit night sky” than it is “pitch black.” The red paintfill, combined with the “chameleon red” Newton Tempo shaft, adds a nice finishing touch.

Regarding the Gravity Deuce specifically, Newton calls it a wide-body blade putter. While it is about twice the width of a traditional blade, I would consider it more of a square mid-mallet. That said, there are distinct Anser characteristics in the shoulders and topline of the putter. The external hosel is an interesting touch for a center-shaft putter, as opposed to the usual “shaft-over” spud. When looking down from address, it blends seamlessly into the putter head so it shouldn’t be distracting to the golfer.

How Does it Feel?

Newton’s “ultra-low balance point” is arguably the secret sauce behind the Gravity putters. By using a lightweight carbon fiber shaft and an ultra-light putter grip, the balance point is almost entirely at the head of the putter. So much so that I’m convinced if the sole of the putter were flat, the Deuce could stand up on its own. In addition to the stability from being face-balanced, this design gives the Gravity Deuce a level of head awareness unlike many putters you’ll try. It’s not so heavy that you can’t control it, but the ultra-low balance point gives it a definitive presence.

When striking the sweet spot, the Gravity Deuce feels extremely muted and clean. Carbon steel has a certain feel to it, and this putter really captures that. I’m also impressed by how soft and smooth the putter feels despite the shallow face milling. There’s enough milling to make better contact with the ball, yet it’s stunning how little “click” there is. A lot of this feel can also be attributed to the Newton Tempo shaft and how it absorbs vibration. Of course, as you move away from the sweet spot, the feel firms up quickly. Credit to the Tempo shaft—while the impact feels firmer, it does an excellent job of keeping unwanted vibrations out of your hands.

How Does it Sound?

The sound of the Newton Gravity Deuce mirrors the feel exactly. When you strike the sweet spot of the face, it produces a tame, muted “tock.” It’s about as good as you can get from a carbon steel, milled putter face. When you stray from the sweet spot, the tone becomes more clicky. Maybe it’s the ceramic coating playing a role, but the sound is pleasantly soft and very classic.

On-Course Performance

Much of the Newton Gravity Deuce putter’s performance comes down to the characteristics I described in the “Feel” section. I mentioned that the ultra-low balance point gives the Deuce a high level of awareness, which helped me better control the putter head. This is especially beneficial for distance control and developing a consistent “groove” in your putting stroke. Greater awareness leads to more repeatable results. Does it take some getting used to? Of course it does.

Final Thoughts – Newton Gravity Deuce

The Newton Gravity Deuce putter offers a unique combination of innovative design and classic appeal. Its ultra-low balance point provides excellent head awareness and control, making it easier to develop a consistent putting stroke. The soft, muted feel from the carbon steel face, coupled with the vibration-dampening of the Newton Tempo shaft, delivers a smooth, clean impact. While it may take some time to adjust to the distinctive balance, the Gravity Deuce can reward you with improved distance control and consistency.
